What it is: Form 40 is completed by a prospective sponsor to support the migration of a parent, aged dependent relative, remaining relative or carer to Australia. It records the sponsor's identity, relationship to the applicant, household and financial circumstances, and a formal sponsorship undertaking to provide support and accommodation. It is submitted together with the applicant's visa application (such as Form 47PA or 47OF).
Who needs it: It must be completed by the sponsor, who is usually an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen aged 18 or over, and in some cases co-signed by their partner.
Sponsorship for a child to migrate to Australia
What it is: Form 40CH is the sponsorship undertaking lodged by the parent, relative or guardian who is sponsoring a child applying to migrate to Australia (for example under a Child, Orphan Relative or Adoption visa). By completing it the sponsor formally agrees to support the child, including providing accommodation and financial assistance to meet the child's reasonable living needs for their first two years in Australia. It must be lodged together with the child's visa application (form 47CH) and the Visa Application Charge.
Who needs it: It must be completed by the sponsoring parent, relative or guardian, who must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen aged 18 years or over.
