Form 918 vs Form 1002 — what's the difference?
Both concern a subclass 445 dependent child: Form 918 applies for the temporary 445 visa; Form 1002 later adds that child to the parent's permanent Partner visa. You usually lodge 918 first, then 1002.
Application for a subclass 445 (temporary) visa by a dependent child
What it is: Form 918 is an application for an Extended Eligibility (temporary) Dependent Child (subclass 445) visa. It lets a dependent child join a parent who holds a subclass 445 visa, a temporary Partner visa in Australia, or a provisional Partner visa overseas, and to remain until a decision is made on the parent's permanent partner visa. After grant, the child must separately request a permanent partner visa on form 1002 before the parent's application is decided.
Who needs it: A dependent child of a parent who holds a subclass 445 visa or a temporary/provisional Partner visa. A parent, relative or guardian may complete and sign the form on behalf of a child under 16.
Application by a subclass 445 dependent child for a permanent partner visa
What it is: Form 1002 lets a holder of a subclass 445 (Dependent Child) visa be added to a parent's permanent Partner visa application. It is used where the parent has already been granted a Partner (provisional subclass 309) or Partner (temporary subclass 820) visa but their permanent Partner (subclass 100 or 801) visa has not yet been granted. Failing to submit it can leave the child without a permanent visa pathway.
Who needs it: It is used by (or on behalf of) a subclass 445 dependent child visa holder, and covers any dependants of that child, so they can be included on the parent's pending permanent partner visa application.
